A confession, a concession

There’s more to life than waiting for death,
There are a lot more sweet sighs and exhales,
Before the coming of the dreaded last breath,
There’s still hope, before everything else fails.

It turns out life is not a death row,
Forever waiting for the final blow,
For the deadly injection in the blood flow,
Or electric chair for the whole brain to glow.

Simple as they may be,
There are joys to live,
Mushy as it may be,
There’s still love to give.

There’s still the “Cheers”,
There’s still pints of beers,
There’s still tables for two,
For no one knows who.

And there’s still candlelight dinners,
And lovers, and losers, and winners,
And there are even sweet sorrows,
Long before we get to the gallows.

There’s still sadness, and happiness,
And companionships, and loneliness,
It’s all part of the elusive equation,
With no parameter to take dominion.

As corny and obsolete as it sounds,
In all the silliness that abounds,
When everything is going in rounds,
And the futility that surrounds:

I confess and I concede that “Life is good.”
