Shamus

(Inspired by John le Carre)

The moon by day,
Vanishing, sinking,
Fleeting, blushing,
Completing, competing,
Praying:
“Dear God, may they find a place in the daycare for Gabriella and her
stroller,” and innocent words are heard,
“Suffer the little children and let them onto me,”
Imploring:
“Dear God” (G majuscule) –
In places that God had abandoned or was abandoned (Where they put up
signs such as “No god (g minuscule) for the next village or so”) and yet -
“Dear God, may Mircea find ice cream cones in heaven topped with scoops
“beyond his best dreams” and colored in shades compatible with his 6-year-
old light blue aura, with angels cleaning him after peeing in his pants from
so much joy on the merry-go-rounds of the sky,” and innocent words fall on
deaf ears,
“Me onto them let and children little the suffer,”
Feasting:
The moon by night and three for the road,
Three open bottles of Rutherford Hills,
One bottle half full – an optimist/naïve,
One bottle half empty – a pessimist/sentimental,
One bottle twice as it should be – a Dentimist ®/in a class of its own,
Communicating through large metallic birds with telepathic antennae,
Thousands of miles between them*
(*Vol d’oiseau – gris et métallique)
Soaring:
Pan Am/Can’t beat the experience,
Trans Am/No, make that a Mercedes,
Trans At/Oceans of loneliness colliding,
And how easy it would be when Neutra is your God, presiding over a back
garden full of tulips (In the shape of Saarinen chairs) and lucky coins hidden
under lucky seahorse plants, with chameleon cactuses that elope into the
night leaving behind holes fit to be graves for fireflies and childhood dreams,

Pleading:
“Cultivons notre jardin!”
Echoing:
The words ex-virgins cry at airport,
Sobbing:
“Forgive. Lover. Forgive,” after having been robbed from what they swore
they would never give away under the light of the moon, by day.
