Before and after
Pretending to be fine,
Yet flirting at the edge of sanity,
Right there on the borderline,
Of the no man’s land of vanity.
The passport was stamped,
The suitcases packed,
I was close to going on journey,
Armed with my Monopoly money.
Every love I had was under condition,
Never gratuitous, never for free,
So I always paid the price of devotion,
At least that’s how it always used to be.
My heart has been broken repetitively,
To small pieces that cannot break further,
So if you wanted to hurt me, it doesn’t matter,
But for your sake, I hope you proceeded tentatively.
Today, all of this is like a remembrance,
From a past with a locked entrance,
A hazy memory back in the distance,
A mellow shape without much consistence.
No point dwelling over what once was,
Or rather on what once was not,
Instead of a comma, there’s now a dot,
And a whole set of new laws.
It’s the classical “before” and “after”,
With a miracle cream right in the middle,
With somewhere an unsolvable riddle,
But, point is, things are really better.
