Catcher in the Rhyme 2005
Dreams in Chanel vamp
What strange dream have we dreamt?
Or was it a dream?
You have heard this one before, I know.
But I still have the right to wonder if it was a dream at all. Particularly that I
wasn’t sleeping.
Or even lying.
Lying in bed that is.
Time, time and more time passes me by without even a greeting,
Not even a nod,
It refuses to acknowledge that I am here,
That I exist,
That my existence is dependent on time,
That my existence is timely,
That time and time again, I happen to be here.
Even if, had I not been here, and therefore been there, time would still have
ignored me,
So, been there, done that, got ignored again by time,
Time, and time again,
I believe it happened many times, but this time it seems different for a rea-
son,
Not that I can pinpoint the reason,
And not that there is reason to it.
But this time, at least I am aware of it,
And that what makes it different,
Being ignored, and being aware to be ignored,
By time, as it goes by.
Suddenly not ignoring me anymore.
What do I do? I was never acknowledged by time before,
Seems so embarrassing,
Don’t know what the rules of etiquette say,
Must I greet? Approach and shake hands? Wait till I am talked to? Wait till
we are formally introduced?
This is a tad ridiculous.
Ok, must take my courage in both hands and approach,
But if I took my courage in both hands,
How am I supposed to shake hands if I am asked to?
My courage will be dropped to the floor,
Being fragile it would shatter,
And what would I do with a shattered courage,
I did not even know what to do with it when it was intact, so it is even more
difficult now that it is shattered.
Well, time is up.
Must I stand up as well, in respect at least,
In respect, perhaps, but in retrospect it is too late,
Time is up and has already started walking towards the door.
Wait!
Time is gone, and gone is the time when time acknowledged me,
Time for our intrepid hero to wear his cape for duty calls,
Not only it calls, it actually shouts with a high-pitched note that leaves you
completely unable to reply,
Our intrepid hero’s mission for the day is to catch up with time,
Not the same time that just got through the door, it must be some other time,
But even that time just passed by,
And walked out the door,
So our hero must anticipate time,
The one that is going to come through the door.
No, really, I hate redundancy.
