Exodus 2003
The book of sadness and oblivion
Elias is traveling tonight on a plane,
Because Daniel already traveled two years ago,
His father missed him so much; he just had to go,
So much emotion and longing, he was going insane.
Now I know Daniel is dead,
And one shouldn’t speak evil,
But he was a big time devil,
A real annoying dickhead.
Chasing the chicks on his rented per hour Vespa,
Spraying on the walls yet he was no Basquiat,
Trying to pick on me whenever he’d see me walk,
And a parental advisory was required for his talk.
He had purchased a brand new Honda civic,
Black, with spoilers; you know, the classic,
His brother had the same, but in white,
Parked together, you knew something wasn’t right.
“We live to drive, we drive to die”,
Said the sticker on the back window,
Driving like a madman, boy did he try,
Well, about his death, perhaps he did know!
He ended up dying in a car crash as a passenger,
Whereas a fractured bone is all what hit the driver,
On his funeral the family shot bullets in the air,
It was illegal, but to accuse them, no one did dare.
Connected to politicians, the family played their dirty games,
They knew every house in the area, all the voters’ names,
All the weasels showed up the service paying their fake respect,
For the teenage boy’s family, they’re politicians what do you expect?
Now Elias lived in an abandoned VW camper,
Parked next to his family’s house,
On winter days it couldn’t have been damper,
Invaded by rats and the occasional mouse.
Ever since his son died on that fateful day,
He wore a large crucifix and never took it away,
Underneath it a picture of Daniel framed in plastic,
It looked a little old, as if coming from the attic.
On the opposite wall of the parked combo,
Written in bold characters with charcoal,
The word “Dany” above a cross, size jumbo,
Trying to keep his memory alive was the goal.
Dany’s Honda Civic is still parked there, underneath a shed,
Behind, Elias placed a mattress that ended up a deathbed,
Come hell or high water, sleeping there he would dare,
For all the people passing there to see, he didn’t care.
His daughter bringing him food,
Sometimes helping him eat,
When he was too down; it was for his own good,
And his grief he never managed to beat.
Yesterday as I was walking I saw Elias’ obituary,
Four sons and one daughter survived him apparently,
Four sons? Yes, his Dany was mentioned in there still,
I think his father must have written it in his will.
“Put Dany’s name in my obituary,
Don’t destroy the little sanctuary,
That I built to honor his memory,
And take care of your sister Mary.”
I am not sure if the father and the son,
Met each other in heaven or hell,
That, I really cannot say or tell,
But both have now moved on.
The camper will soon be moved,
The Civic will shortly be for sale,
Any further traces will be removed,
Well, it seems that’s the end of that tale.
