Catcher in the Rhyme 2006
The wasted time
What do I do with the wasted time?
What do I do with the time that was lost?
Lost as I walked up your street so many times,
Not aware it was your pace I was overstepping,
Lost as I passed under your balcony,
Not being aware of your breath mingling with the air I was breathing,
Lost when I went to the grocery store you go to,
Not realizing of the defended fruit I was touching,
Lost when I tied my shoelace on your car,
Not asking for forgiveness for the blasphemy I was committing,
Lost as I used the same sun,
Not knowing it was I was taking the rays away from you,
Lost as I contemplated the same landscape,
Not paying attention that I should have saved it for you,
Lost as I used the services of the same God,
Not conscious it was your prayers I was diverting his attention from,
Lost as I used the same national defense system, same modern inventions,
Same new and improved products, same non-rival and non-excludable public
goods,
But what good are the street, the balcony, the grocery store, the sun, the land-
scape, God, and everything else; if I never knew you back then,
And how will I make up for that lost time before I knew you?
