Exodus 2003
RORRIM (My mirror reversed)
My reflection saw me in the mirror and paled,
It tried to recognize me, but it failed,
Scrutinizing me with its look, it was pained,
Maybe it was shocked, to see me so strained.
On the other side of the mirror,
A creature looked at me with horror,
Wished it had a life of its own,
One where memories don’t make it frown.
It wanted to be free, to escape from its owner,
Probably have friends, rather than being a loner,
Wanted to mingle with its own peers,
Go out to the clubs and pubs to say “Cheers!”
It turned left to avoid looking me in the eye,
But I kept staring, and it couldn’t run from me or fly,
We couldn’t communicate with one another,
Eventually, we stopped and didn’t even bother.
Our encounter grew stranger and stranger,
Being face to face with a complete stranger,
But there was no bitterness, no anger,
I focused in the background on the coat hanger.
At one point it wanted to talk to me, and tell me things,
But across the space, and whatever tomorrow brings,
I count on you, even if I’ll tumble, even if I’ll fall,
You’ll have to be there, on the reverse of the mirror on the wall.
